Twice, victim of bombing attempt (1928) , which was attributed to John "Dingbat" O'Berta. O'Berta at the time was a local "Beer Baron" who wanted to dispose King as 12th Ward Committeeman. O'Berta also belonged to Al Capone's gang.
Died of Pneumonia, 04 November 1929 at the age of 43. Buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with his wife Mary Durkin King, Alsip, Illinois. Plot location: Grave 12, Lot 12, Block 3, Section 3.
