There is little definite information regarding Lawrence King. He was born about 1853 in Ireland, possibly in Ennis, Co. Clare. Based on the 1888 Chicago Poll listing, Lawrence was a resident of Cook Co., IL for 18 years. This means he may have come to Chicago about 1870-71 (Chicago Fire was in 1871). He married Bridget Dillon on 15 May 1878 in Chicago.

They had 5 children: John, James, Timothy, Lawrence F. and Leo. All children were born in Chicago. Lawrence King had two known brothers, Michael and James living in Chicago. Lawrence also had a sister Kate (Brogan), living in Kiltemper, Co. Clare Ireland.

Lawrence King's mothers name was Johanna Quinn, his fathers first name is unknown.

Note: The Certificate of Death for Lawrence King documents his age at time of death as 55 years old. This would mean he was born about 1852. The 1880 U.S. Census documents his age as 27 years old. This would mean he was born about 1853. The 1900 U.S. Federal Census documents his age as 49, born in the month of October. This would mean he was born about 1851.

Based on the 1880 Census, because it's closer to the actual event date, the year of birth for Lawrence is assumed to be 1853, and the month is taken as October. No day of birth has been located.

The Certificate of Death also documents Lawrence as being a resident of Illinois for 35 years. This would mean, based on his age in the 1880 Census (27), that he came from Ireland about 1872, or about the age of 19 or 20 years old.

The Certificate of Death for Michael King records his age at death as "About 63", this would mean that he was born about 1863. The above census documents his year of birth as about 1856. The 1920 Census documents his age as 62. This would mean he was born about 1857. Based on the 1880 Census, because it's closer to the actual event date, the year of birth for Michael King is assumed to be 1856.

Note : Also listed in Calvary Cemetery Interment records was the name "Baby King" who died at 3173 Archer Ave, Chicago IL. on 30 Jan 1896. "Baby King" was buried on 31 Jan 1896 at Calvary Cemetery in an area known as "Pottersfield", age listed was "Premature". This child could have belonged to Bridget Dillon King and Lawrence King. Bridget Dillon King died 4 days later.
